Geologic Data - Flathead Region of Montana, British Columbia and Alberta During the early to mid 1980's there was a major petroleum exploration rush in Northwestern Montana as the northern extent of the Cordilleran Overthrust Belt, a petroleum productive province south of Montana. With field relationships and studies indicating that the major Lewis Overthrust Fault in the Glacier Park region carried ancient Proterozoic rocks over younger, petroleum rich, Paleozoic and Mesozoic rocks, many in the petroleum industry at the time thought that the zone with ancient Proterozoic rocks thrust over younger, potentially oil rich rocks, could extend over most of Northwestern Montana. Bill Boberg’s experiences included intimate knowledge of the little known oil and gas seeps in the Proterozoic terrane of the Sage Creek area of Southeastern British Columbia as well as detailed knowledge of the Proterozoic Belt Supergroup. These experiences uniquely qualified him to provide detailed experience and knowledge to those trying to better understand the region and its petroleum potential. Previous work in Montana, in the 1980's, did not correlate well with more recent work done by Canadian companies in Alberta and British Columbia. Bill conducted his own private geologic studies to provide a better understanding of the geology and petroleum potential of Northwestern Montana.
