Petroleum
Potential of the Whitefish/MacDonald
Range and North Fork Flathead Region, NW Montana and SE British Columbia by
W. W. Boberg, 1983. The area of this study contains all of the local and
regional geologic characteristics which are necessary to an understanding of
the geology of the general Flathead region of northwestern Montana,
Southeastern British Columbia and Southwestern Alberta and its petroleum
potential. The study is based on the greater detail of data available in
Canada is carried directly into Montana on base maps specially prepared for
the study. It was designed to provide a detailed geologic report including
necessary backup data (well logs, sample descriptions, measured sections,
specific important references, rock samples of important stratigraphic units,
etc.) to allow users to gain a rapid understanding of the current state (mid
1980's) of geologic and exploration knowledge of this complex region as well
as providing materials for continuing their own studies. This report sold for
US$12,000.00 from 1983 to 1986 (a value of about $22,000.00 in today’s US
dollars). It is available today at the reduced price of US$1495.00 for the
volumes 1, 2 and 3 as paper copies of the report, no data boxes and none of
the large format maps hand colored as in the original version.
